The hybrid inverter MultiPlus 24/1600/40-16 — is a functional and reliable inverter-charger from Victron Energy, combining three key functions in a single casing: a high-performance 1600 VA (1300 W) sine wave inverter, a built-in 24 V charger at 40 A, and an automatic power source transfer switch with support for intelligent energy storage and management systems (ESS).
This model is designed for use in autonomous, backup, grid, and hybrid energy configurations. If necessary, the system is easily expandable: parallel connection of several devices allows you to gain up to 30 kVA in a single-phase version, and a three-phase configuration provides a total power of up to 90 kVA.
Built-in proprietary PowerControl and PowerAssist technologies turn the hybrid inverter MultiPlus 24/1600/40-16 into an ideal solution for solar power plants, backup power systems, autonomous power installations in residential buildings, commercial facilities, and in transport.
Key advantages of the MultiPlus Compact inverter
The vast majority of the technical characteristics that you will find below place this model above competing devices from other European manufacturers and significantly higher than any budget solutions of Asian production.
- Power – nominal: 1600 VA / 1300 W, peak: 3000 W — the device starts loads with high starting currents without difficulty: pumps, refrigeration compressors, power tools.
- Perfect 230 V sine wave – a guarantee of correct and safe operation of all sensitive consumers, including medical equipment, boilers, and server hardware.
- High efficiency up to 94% — efficient conversion with minimal heat loss and insignificant casing heating even in continuous operation modes.
- Ultra-low standby consumption – up to 3 W in Search Mode — without a load, the inverter goes into sleep mode, practically without using battery power.
- Wide input voltage range 19–33 V – optimized for LiFePO4 batteries. At the same time, the charger and inverter perfectly adapt to almost all known types of both lithium and lead-acid batteries.
- Operability at temperatures from -40 to +65°C – the device maintains full stability in the harshest climatic conditions: suitable for installation in onboard systems of cars and yachts, in outdoor cabinets, unheated warehouses, and technical rooms.
- Wide compatibility with various types of generators – gasoline, diesel, inverter, and gas units. The inverter has an extensive set of tuning parameters for correct joint operation with any generator. A function for automatic control of starting and stopping the generator according to battery charge parameters is implemented.
- Rich ecosystem of additions and expansions — opens up possibilities for remote monitoring, remote control, fine-tuning of the configuration, and device firmware updates via the internet.
- VRM cloud monitoring platform — your personal dispatch system at hand 24 hours a day. Set up personalized PUSH notifications about mains power failure, battery discharge to a specified level, auto-start of the generator, and other events. Each of them can trigger an automatic system control scenario.
Technological features
1. Two independent alternating current outputs
The first output – priority, uninterrupted: provides power to all critical loads even when the external grid completely disappears. Switching to batteries occurs instantly.
The second output – auxiliary: activated only when power is available from the external grid or generator. Ideal for non-essential loads (boilers, chargers, air conditioners) that should not discharge the battery during an emergency.
2. PowerControl – intelligent external grid overload protection
The administrator sets the maximum allowable current consumption from the city grid or generator. The inverter independently controls power distribution: loads receive priority, and battery charging is performed from the remaining reserve, without exceeding the set limit.
3. PowerAssist – instant boost during peak consumption
As soon as the total load exceeds the capabilities of the grid or generator, the inverter immediately connects the battery as an additional power source. After the peak consumption subsides, the system automatically restores the normal battery charging mode.
4. Full support for solar systems
MultiPlus organically fits into hybrid and fully autonomous photovoltaic installations. The device seamlessly interacts with Victron MPPT charge controllers and grid PV inverters in modes of self-consumption, backup, and full disconnection from the city grid (off-grid).
5. Remote monitoring and system control
After connecting the inverter to a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX system controller (or via the VE.Bus Smart Dongle module via Bluetooth), full remote access to control and view parameters is opened through the VRM cloud portal from any geographical location.
6. Remote configuration of all parameters
Using the VRM platform or directly connecting a PC via the MK3-USB adapter, any parameter of the inverter can be changed at any time: voltage settings, operating modes, current limits, logic of programmable relays, and much more.
7. Parallel connection and three-phase configurations
Parallel connection of up to 6 inverters into a single powerful single-phase system is available. You can also build a full-fledged three-phase configuration from 3 inverters (with the option of parallel operation of multiple devices on each phase). This solution is ideal for industrial enterprises and remote mini-power plants.
Use cases
- Autonomous and backup power supply for a private house or cottage
- Office buildings and commercial facilities — power backup and multi-tariff consumption balancing
- Farms and agro-industrial facilities — uninterruptible power supply for pumps, compressors, and refrigeration equipment
- Yachts and boats, campers, motorhomes – total energy independence on the road
- Production facilities and workshops – powerful stable power supply for machine tools and industrial power tools
- Hybrid solar power plants (ESS) – deep integration with PV inverters and energy storage units
- Backup power for critical infrastructure (security and fire systems, telecommunications equipment, IT server rooms)
Has the ECE R10-4 (EMC) electromagnetic compatibility standard
ECE R10-4 – is an internationally recognized standard for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) that determines the requirements for electronic equipment used on vehicles. The document standardizes the limits of radiated electromagnetic interference and requirements for the device's immunity to external electromagnetic influences.
What does the ECE R10-4 certificate mean for Victron Energy inverters?
Low level of electromagnetic radiation
– Victron inverters absolutely do not interfere with the operation of onboard radio communications, GPS systems, mobile networks, and any other electronics of a car, yacht, or industrial equipment.
High resistance to electromagnetic interference
– Inverters maintain full operability under conditions of powerful electromagnetic fields or sharp voltage surges typical of trucks, agricultural, and construction vehicles.
Safe integration into onboard vehicle systems
– Compliance with UNECE (ECE) regulations provides the full legal right to install inverters in cars, campers, marine vessels, and other vehicles without the risk of disrupting the operation of the engine control unit, the ABS system, and other electronic security systems.
Confirmed quality and compliance with international standards
– The ECE R10-4 certificate is official confirmation that Victron Energy products have passed a full cycle of rigorous laboratory tests and fully meet international safety requirements for transport applications.
What does this give users of Inverter Smart inverters?
- Legal operation of equipment on vehicles without the need to undergo any additional certification procedures.
- Electromagnetic compatibility with all onboard systems – the inverter does not interfere with radio communications, navigation, autopilot, GPS, and other electrical appliances on board.
- Reliable operation in severe conditions – on marine vessels, in residential trailers, commercial vehicles, and special equipment.
- Protection from electromagnetic induction – the inverter does not fail during sharp voltage changes in the vehicle's onboard electrical network.
