The hybrid inverter MultiPlus 12/1600/70-16 — is another outstanding model in the line of inverter-chargers from Victron Energy. Three functional blocks are combined in a compact casing at once: a high-performance 1600 VA (1300 W) sine wave inverter, a reliable 12 V charger at 70 A, and a built-in automatic source transfer switch with full support for intelligent energy management systems (ESS).
The device is focused on use in autonomous, backup, grid, and hybrid power systems of various scales. The inverter is scalable by parallel connection of several devices: the total power of a single-phase configuration reaches 30 kVA, and in a three-phase version — 90 kVA.
Proprietary PowerControl and PowerAssist technologies make the hybrid inverter MultiPlus 12/1600/70-16 a first-class option for solar power plants, backup power systems, autonomous power supply for homes, commercial enterprises, and mobile facilities.
Key advantages of the MultiPlus Compact inverter
Most of the technical parameters of this model surpass the performance of competing devices from European brands and significantly outperform the characteristics of budget Asian-made solutions.
- Power – nominal: 1600 VA / 1300 W, peak: 3000 W — easily takes on heavy starting loads from electric motors, pumps, and compressors.
- True 230 V sine wave – safe and comfortable operation of all sensitive consumers: boilers, medical devices, servers, and audio equipment.
- High efficiency up to 93% — highly efficient conversion, minimal losses in the form of heat, and insignificant heating even under prolonged loads.
- Minimal standby consumption – up to 2 W in Search Mode — the device saves battery life during periods of no consumption.
- Wide input voltage range 9.5–17 V – optimized for LiFePO4 and simultaneously compatible with almost all common types of lithium and lead-acid batteries.
- Operation in the temperature range -40…+65°C – the device does not lose stability either in Arctic frosts or in conditions of tropical heat and high humidity. Installation in vehicles, on yachts, in outdoor telecommunication cabinets, and unheated rooms is allowed.
- Works with all types of generators – gasoline, diesel, inverter, and gas. Built-in settings allow you to quickly adapt the inverter to the features of any generator. The function of automatic control of starting and stopping the generator according to the specified battery charge conditions is implemented.
- Flexible system of additional options and expansions — for remote monitoring, system management, configuration changes, and firmware updates via the internet.
- Modern VRM cloud platform — provides constant control over the entire power system. Supports flexible setup of PUSH notifications to a smartphone about grid loss, a drop in battery level below a set threshold, automatic start or stop of the generator, as well as any other events. Each event can be used as a trigger to run automatic control scenarios.
Technological features
1. Two independent alternating current outputs
The first output – the main, uninterrupted one: supplies all critical loads even when external power is disconnected, instantly switching to battery power.
The second output – auxiliary, available exclusively when connected to the grid or a generator. Optimal for consumers whose operation during an emergency is not critical (boilers, car charging stations, etc.).
2. PowerControl – intelligent grid overload protection
The system administrator sets the upper limit of current consumption from the grid or generator. The inverter automatically controls the distribution: the first priority — powering active loads, the second — charging batteries from the available remaining power. The set current limit is never exceeded.
3. PowerAssist – instant compensation of peak loads
With a sharp jump in consumption that the grid or generator cannot cope with, MultiPlus automatically connects the battery as an auxiliary power source. After the peak consumption is over, the system resumes battery charging as usual.
4. Full integration with solar generation
MultiPlus works equally effectively both in hybrid and fully autonomous (off-grid) solar systems. It supports joint work with Victron MPPT charge controllers and grid PV inverters in modes of self-consumption, backup, and complete disconnection from the grid.
5. Remote monitoring and control
When connecting the inverter to Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX system controllers (or using the VE.Bus Smart Dongle module via Bluetooth), remote access to system control and viewing its parameters via the VRM portal from anywhere in the world is provided.
6. Remote system setup
Using the VRM platform or through a direct PC connection (via the MK3-USB adapter), you can change all key inverter parameters at any time: voltage settings, operating modes, current limits, relay control logic, and more.
7. Parallel and three-phase scaling
Parallel combination of up to 6 inverters into a single single-phase system or the formation of a three-phase configuration from 3 inverters (with the option of parallel operation of several devices in each phase) is allowed. This is an optimal solution for powering production lines, small enterprises, and autonomous facilities.
Use cases
- Autonomous and backup power supply for private housing
- Office buildings and commercial enterprises with backup power and multi-tariff consumption balancing
- Farms and agro-industrial facilities for powering pumping equipment, compressors, and refrigeration units
- Yachts and boats, motorhomes, vans, and trailers – autonomy and independence on any journey
- Production facilities and workshops – powerful and stable power supply for industrial equipment
- Hybrid solar power plants (ESS) – comprehensive integration with PV inverters and energy storage units
- Backup power for critical infrastructure (security and fire systems, telecom, server rooms)
Has the ECE R10-4 (EMC) electromagnetic compatibility standard
ECE R10-4 – is an international standard for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applied to electronic equipment installed on vehicles. It determines the limits of radiated interference and requirements for the device's immunity to external electromagnetic influences.
What does the ECE R10-4 certificate mean for Victron Energy inverters?
Low level of electromagnetic radiation
– Inverters absolutely do not interfere with the operation of radio communications, GPS systems, mobile networks, or any other onboard electronics of a car, yacht, or industrial equipment.
High resistance to electromagnetic interference
– Inverters maintain stable operation even under conditions of strong electromagnetic fields or sharp voltage surges characteristic of commercial and construction vehicles.
Safe integration into transport systems
– Complies with UNECE (ECE) requirements, allowing the installation of inverters in cars, campers, marine vessels, and other vehicles without the threat of disrupting the operation of the main control unit, the ABS system, and other electronic security systems.
Guarantee of quality and compliance with international standards
– The ECE R10-4 certificate indicates that Victron Energy products have passed a full cycle of rigorous testing and fully meet international safety requirements for transport applications.
What does this give users of Inverter Smart inverters?
- The possibility of legal use of equipment on vehicles without the need for additional certification.
- Full electromagnetic compatibility with other systems – no interference for radio, navigation, autopilot, GPS, and other devices.
- Reliable operation under severe operating conditions – marine transport, residential trailers, commercial and special vehicles.
- Protection from electromagnetic pulses – the inverter does not fail during sharp voltage changes in the onboard electrical network.
Communication interfaces
-
VE.Bus port – for parallel/three-phase operation, configuration, and communication with GX controllers for internet connectivity.
-
Programmable relay – allows you to automate necessary processes.
-
Optional Bluetooth – use the VE.Bus Smart dongle to control the inverter directly from your smartphone using the state-of-the-art VictronConnect app.
