The BMV-702 Black Battery Monitor is an advanced version of the basic BMV-700 model. It is specifically designed for configurations with two independent battery banks or daisy-chain assemblies where constant monitoring of the midpoint voltage is required.
The device copes excellently with AGM, GEL and lithium (LiFePO4) batteries. In addition to standard charge level monitoring, it allows you to control a backup generator through a built-in relay, protecting your system from critical voltage surges and deep discharge.
The original Victron 500A/50mV measuring shunt is included in the package - go to technical parameters
The main advantages of the Victron BMV-702 Black monitor
Monitored parameters:
- Battery charge level (%)
- Energy consumption (Ah)
- Approximate time until complete shutdown
- Current network voltage
- Current value (up to 500 A)
- Midpoint voltage is critical for multi-section assemblies!
Supports all current battery types:lead-acid (AGM/GEL) and modern lithium (LiFePO4)
Possibility of connecting a temperature sensor
Programmable built-in relay
Connection to VictronConnect using the VE.Direct interface
Intuitive setup directly on the screen or from your smartphone
Technical characteristics
- Article: BAM010702200 (R)
- Operating voltage range: 6.5 – 95 V
- Current limit: ±500 A (using standard 500 A/50 mV shunt)
- Current measurement error: ±0.4%
- Screen: high-contrast LCD with backlight
- Connectors: VE.Direct, temperature sensor input, relay
- Power consumption: only 4 mA in display rest mode
Where used
- Monitoring of energy systems in motorhomes and campsites
- ESS home storage devices with LiFePO₄ cells
- Sea yachts with series-connected batteries
- Systems with two batteries (for example, starter and service)
Available interfaces
VE.direct port – used for:
- VictronConnect applications (requires USB adapter or Bluetooth module)
- GX control centers (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX)
Optional temperature probe – helps adjust the charging profile
Automatic relay – for starting units or siren
Midpoint voltage control – allows you to identify imbalance of elements
Midpoint Voltage
The BMV-702 Black provides a critical option for large battery banks:
- Ideal for two 12V batteries connected in a 24V or 48V system
- Helps you notice the imbalance of a particular section in time
- Protects batteries from premature failure
- Activates an alarm if the difference exceeds 2–3%
Midpoint monitoring is a professional-level diagnostic that prevents the failure of expensive battery packs.
Automatic start of the fuel generator
BMV-702 Black is equipped with a programmable relay that can start the generator in the following cases:
- SoC value has fallen below the allowed threshold
- The voltage has reached a critical minimum
- Capacity consumption exceeded the established limits
The generator stops when:
- SoC is restored to the desired value (for example, 95%)
- The built-in operation limitation timer is triggered
- Charging current drops to buffer minimum
This function is especially useful with LiFePO4 batteries:
- They easily accept huge currents
- The generator runs significantly less time
- Fuel economy, silence and extended equipment life
