Victron Energy AGM Telecom 12V 165Ah – is a specialized industrial battery designed to provide reliable backup power in telecommunication nodes and IT infrastructure. Distinctive features of the Telecom series: front terminal placement for easy access, a narrow form factor for tight installation in 19- and 23-inch telecommunication racks, and the highest energy density. This battery is indispensable for server rooms, data centers, communication systems, and has also proven itself well on marine vessels and in compact mobile power installations.
Key Advantages of the AGM Telecom Battery
- High nominal capacity: 165 Ah (when discharged to 10.5V and at a temperature of 25°C)
- Outstanding lifespan: capable of withstanding up to 1800 charge/discharge cycles (at 30% depth of discharge)
- Front access (Front Terminal): maximally simplifies the installation and maintenance of batteries in racks and telecom cabinets
- Extreme cold cranking amps (starting current): 1500 A (even in severe frost -18°C)
- Short circuit current: reaches 5000 A, which confirms low internal resistance
- Optimized dimensions: 548 x 105 x 316 mm with a weight of 49 kg – ideal for tight layouts
- Ultra-low self-discharge: charge loss is less than 2% per month (at 20°C)
- Absolute safety: completely sealed VRLA case eliminates electrolyte leakage and requires no maintenance
Technological Features
AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Technology: the electrolyte is reliably absorbed in a porous fiberglass separator, tightly sandwiched between lead plates. This provides excellent resistance to vibrations and the ability to operate in any position.
Impressive cyclic capability:
- 500 cycles at a deep discharge of 80% (DoD)
- 750 cycles at a discharge of 50% (DoD)
- 1800 cycles at a gentle discharge of 30% (DoD)
Recommended charging parameters:
- Absorption stage voltage: 14.4 – 14.7 V
- Float stage voltage: 13.6 – 13.8 V
Very low self-discharge rate:
- The battery retains its charge for a long time during storage. The self-discharge rate increases slightly only when operated at elevated temperatures.
Use Cases
- Communication and telecommunication infrastructure: ideal dimensions and front terminals are created specifically for convenient and compact installation in narrow racks.
- Marine and river transport: thanks to high vibration resistance, sealing, and impressive starting currents, the battery excellently copes with tasks on yachts, boats, and ships.
- Off-grid and backup power supply: a reliable element for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, powering mobile offices, security and video surveillance systems.
- Data centers and server rooms: where every centimeter of space matters, the shape of the Telecom battery allows you to place maximum capacity in a minimal area, and low self-discharge guarantees battery readiness at any moment.
Quality Charging and Monitoring
To maximize the service life of AGM batteries, Victron Energy engineers recommend:
Intelligent chargers:
- Blue Smart IP22 Charger (for dry rooms)
- Blue Smart IP65 Charger (dust and moisture protection)
- Blue Smart IP67 Charger (completely sealed)
Protection devices:
- BatteryProtect and Smart BatteryProtect modules for timely disconnection of the load and prevention of a critical deep discharge.
Accurate monitoring:
- Battery monitors BMV-700, BMV-712 Smart – for detailed control of the state of charge (SOC), current voltage, and current.
- Measuring shunts SmartShunt 300A or 500A – a compact solution for monitoring via Bluetooth on a smartphone screen.
Balancing (for 24V systems and above):
- Battery Balancer — a critical element for maintaining an even charge in 24/36/48 V battery assemblies connected in series.
Charging on the move:
- Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger converters – will ensure correct and controlled charging of AGM batteries directly from the alternator of a car, motorhome, or boat.
